DNS refers to the Domain Name System. Do you know we can’t be able to access or visit web pages as you do without a Domain Name System? If there is nothing like a Domain Name System, you have to remember the long IP address of web pages like 192.168.1.1.

Domain Name System plays a promoting role for internet networks. Furthermore, technology has made our lives simpler. But how knowing about the DNS servers can help you?

Well, in this digital era, you should know what DNS is and how it works. Furthermore, knowing about DNS servers can benefit you greatly when it comes to creating and developing a website.

What Is DNS Server?

You can think of the DNS server as your phonebook, where you save many of your near and dear ones with their name. You can do so when you need to call someone by selecting his name in the phonebook. You neither need to remember his number nor dial it.

Now, you have to relate the concept of your phonebook with the DNS server. The domain name system server stores billions of domain names with their IP address and shows you search results based on the domain name of the IP address you put on the search bar.

Here, you don’t need to remember the long-form IP address. Each device of the server has a unique IP address for one website. Millions of people visit Google every single second. Here, all the devices used to visit Google have different IP addresses.

How Does DNS Server Work?

You may be curious about knowing how the domain name works and less than a second. As you don’t need to remember the IP address of a particular website you want to visit, you have to put the URL or domain name of the server in your search box.

Once you put the website’s domain name on the search bar, the request to find the IP address of the domain name is routed to the DNS resolver server. Then the DNS resolver server finds the IP address of the domain name in its server,

Moreover, if the DNS resolver server can’t find the IP address, it then forwards the request to the TLS.name server. The TLD.name server then sends the request to the authoritative name server, which is the final destination of the request for the expected IP address of the website.

Then, the authoritative name server sends the IP records to the DNS resolver server of the ISP. Thus, you can visit the website you want to visit. Furthermore, in most cases, you don’t need to type the entire URL and domain name to revisit that website.

The DNS resolver server cache the IP record, and whenever your search query becomes relevant to your previous search, it suggests the website or web pages. However, the servers play the most significant roles in the DNS system for performing specific tasks.

You may hear or should hear the term ‘DNS,’ meaningfully means Domain Name Registration System. No issues with the full meaning, and you want to know what domain registration is and how it works.

However, DNS or Domain Name Registration System is one of the important rules the internet has to perform. Meaningfully, if there’s no DNS system, you won’t be able to order your favorite pizza online or call a taxi to reach the desired destination over a mobile app.

In this short article, we will try to cover the DNS server and its functions properly.

What is a Domain Name Server?

You can consider the Domain name as the name you saved in your Phone book. Why do you save your name in the phonebook? This is because you can’t remember all your friends and family numbers.

In the case of a domain name system, you can search for a website using letters we use to communicate. For example, to re-enter our website, you must type https://tarhibit.com/ in your browser.

But, unfortunately, the web server can’t understand your language. This means the web server is unable to understand https://tarhibit.com/. Instead, the web server can understand unique IP addresses to identify a website a visitor is looking for.

The number is where all the IP address of the website is stored, it is called domain name server, and the process the web server shows you are the website you want to enter is Domain Name System.

How Does Domain Name Server Work?

When you type any domain name on your favorite browser, you are redirected to a website in less than you blink your eyes. But, the interesting thing is that all the complex processes of the webserver to take you to your desired website take place meanwhile.

First, when you type a domain name on a browser, the domain name server looks for cache memory on your end. The cache memory is created when you visit a website several times.

But, if the domain name server can’t find any cache memory, it searches on its system by translating the domain name into an IP address. If any IP address matches with the IP address of the website you want to visit, the domain name server, with the help of the resolving name server, takes you to the website.

But what if the resolving name server doesn’t have the IP address on its memory> Don’t worry. The resolving name server then sends the request to find the IP address to the Top Level Domain Server or TLD.

But, in some cases, the TLD server may not know the location of the domain name server. In this case, the TLD server sends the request to the authoritative name server,

But, how can a TLF server know what authoritative name server to use? The TLD server knows which authoritative name server to use with the help of the domain register.

Finally, the authoritative name server receives the request, finds the IP address in its cache, and replies to the operating system. The operating system then sends the memory to the browser, which connects the IP address with the domain name you type on your browser.
